Hello and Happy New Year, 2024.

It was a full house at Stepping Stones on Thursday (11th January 2024). It was lovely to see so many friends, old and new. David made us a cracking lunch of Shepherd's Pie and green beans, dee-lish!! We all took part in a great (though quite hard) quiz compliments of Andy. Thank you to both Andy and David and to Liz and Eve for reading out the quiz questions and answers. Fanny said she will be hanging us from the ceiling next week when all the regulars who couldn't make it today come back! That should make a good photo opportunity!

STEPPING STONES IS BACK!! Our meetings will resume on Thursday 13th January 2022 at our home venue in Turre Evangelical Church.

We look forward to welcoming members old and new.

If you would like to know more and are not yet a member then please come along for coffee on any Thursday morning between 11 and 12.

WISHING EVERYONE A SENSATIONAL 2022.

13th April 2020_  Such a sad day for all of the carers group today as we lost a very good friend Carole Slade.
She suffered from a stroke on Sunday and died in the early hours of this morning in hospital.
Carole had been one of our group from the very beginning when she was caring for her husband Cliff. After Cliff died she still enjoyed coming on a Thursday as she enjoyed the support of quite a few of us that knew how difficult things could be trying to manage on our own.
She was always happy to laugh and joke along with us. We will all miss her.
I would like to send my condolences to all her friends and her family in uk, specially as like many others ,they are having to cope with the problems that the situation at the moment is causing making things even more difficult.
Carole may you rest in peace.

One of Carole's friends from the group wrote this poem for her. I thought you might like to see it.
The Creator guided your earthly days,
And stayed as the shades of night lengthened
and the light faded away
Mercifully you're free from the suffering and pain
that you've endured through life
And been given safe passage to a realm
far away from worldly strife,
With mournful tears of sorrow we send prayers
of praise to you above.
Although we know you've finally found
Everlasting peace and love,

From all her friends.

This poem was read out by the 2 friends who were allowed to be present at the tanatoria in Mojacar. Sadly no member of her family could be with her due to the lockdown situation.

Owing to the corona virus situation the Thursday meetings in Turre are cancelled until further notice. We are all advised to stay at home and only leave if really necessary.
If any of you need help, please call me.
Take care , Fanny

Lovely photo of Fanny and Len Causton from the Anglican church when he popped into the Group to present a cheque for 800 euros in support of Stepping Stones. Thank you SO much, it is very much appreciated.

Another great meeting on Thursday morning and another fabulous lunch from David – Bacon chops and Cauliflower cheese followed by a delicious chocolate cake as it was Pat’s Birthday.

We have had some very generous donations recently including those from The Anglican Church, Turre Bars, Dames in Turre, Masons Lodge of Unity, 98 Almeria Lodge, Anne Anstey,, Finca Listonero, Brian Denning, Lady Ellen and Steve and Maria Crees from El Cortijo, Bedar.

Thank you all so very much for your generosity.

The group, in association with Kirsty Ratclife, are saving towards the cost of buying a vehicle with a tail lift to enable us to provide transport for wheelchair users to the Group meetings and to help them with Doctors or Hospital appointments. So ALL your donations are going to a very worthy cause. THANK YOU.

25 January 2020

What an amazing group meeting on Thursday morning. Anne Anstey came to sing for us and all our members were singing and clapping along then most got up dancing, we had a fabulous time so a very big thank you to Anne and husband Roger. Thanks also to David for a marvellous 'Burns' lunch of Haggis - fabulous everyone loved it.

I have been asked by our dear friend and group member, Dee (Doreen Ernst) to say a very big thank you to everyone for the gorgeous basket of flowers which was presented to her by the Group at our Christmas meal, to celebrate her 90th Birthday. She said she had a wonderful day that she will never forget.

Fabulous performance by the Sue Moretta Choir at Solare this lunchtime. Excellent rendition of carols and Christmas songs. Well done and even better you raised over 170 Euros for Stepping Stones, amazing result, thank you.

The Sue Moretta choir are singing in Solare in Turre tomorrow at 1pm - donations in aid of Stepping Stones. Thanks to Sue and her choir, you are the guys who make things possible for our members, thank you.

Our Group meeting on Thursday was full of fun, laughter and joy. Thanks to Paul, one of our volunteers who organised a morning of Christmas poems, some fun readings and enactments by both volunteers and members. It was a lovely, panto type atmosphere and was enjoyed by everyone. Especially when Fanny got us all singing and acting out the twelve days of Christmas - hilarious. We ate some lovely sausage rolls made by Valerie and for lunch had a fabulous thick chicken and vegetable soup with chunks of bread and butter followed by mince pies - we were all stuffed again!!

I can not believe that I have forgotten to write about the amazing Group Meeting we had LAST WEEK when we were entertained by the wonderful choir: SING, SING, SING - and we did!! Thank you so much to all in the Choir and hopefully I will have some pics and videos up here shortly.

We were all little piggies this morning. I had some fancies left over from my coffee morning so we gobbled those up with our tea and coffee on arrival. Then David made a fabulous mixed veg and bean thick soup for our lunch accompanied by some delicious Dough Bread made this morning by Elizabeth. This was followed by a selection of desserts including apple and cinnamon pie, blackcurrant cheesecake and raspberry sponge, all with lashings of fresh cream, again leftover from my coffee morning. We also enjoyed doing a nice easy-ish crossword and now we are all sleeping off all that food Zzzzzzzzz..............

Nearly forgot the most important thing that happened this morning - members of The Mojacar Area Freemasons came with a Donation for our group of 300 EUROS!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH, it is really appreciated.

Well, Today's meeting was all about the lunch - it had to be because our activity was a bit chaotic when we discovered we didn't all have the same activity sheet!! Hahahaha. Lunch was Beef Bourguignon supplied by Dine-In Mojacar, it was absolutely delicious and we highly recommend them - never tasted such light, creamy mashed potato. You can order online and they deliver to your door. Thanks to Fanny for a fun day.

FAB-U-LOUS meeting on Thursday morning, all sorts of activities going on THEN all topped off with an amazing IKEA lunch - Swedish meat balls, creamed potatoes and veggies with an incredible sauce - divine, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Well done Pat and David for choosing the dishes for us.

Not a usual Group meeting this morning but a get-together lunch at Finca Listonero in Cortijo Grande. If you haven't been here for a meal, then you are missing out big-time. Beautiful place - the grounds, the building, the decor, the comfort oh and the food....................WOW! We all enjoyed a fabulous meal of Spanish chicken and the best apple crumble, ice cream and cream ever, compliments of owners Sandra and Ian Mcilroy, the drinks flowed too and every one of the group had a wonderful time. The Finca is also a B&B https://www.booking.com/hotel/es/la-finca-listonero.htmlhttps://www.booking.com/hotel/es/la-finca-listonero.html

Another group meeting this morning - lots of our members attended. We played 'Tutti Fruiti' - a game well-loved by everyone as it makes everyone think hard and delve into those memory banks. We had two special visitors in the shape of Hugh, Fanny's Brother and his wife, Pat all the way from Canada - nice to meet you guys.

What a wonderful start to our new season of Stepping Stones yesterday. We were delightfully entertained by the Sing, Sing, Sing choir and I took several videos of us all singing along but I am having trouble uploading them at the moment - good job I have some nice photos too. Thanks to David for a fabulous lunch.

Well we all had an end of term meal at El Pinar at lunch time today. There were lots of group members and we all had a lovely time. I have lots of pics and will post them shortly - even have some of Pat!!

A fabulous meeting last Thursday 4th July and a MASSIVE thank you to Dames in Turre for making an incredible donation of 500 euros to the Group - THANK YOU DAMES!

A message from Fanny:

Hi to you all,

El Pinar restaurant and singer Anne Rogers did us proud last Sunday. They collected 373€ for stepping stones with the raffle . The 2 ladies who sold all the raffle tickets were very persuasive!!!

The atmosphere was great.

The roast was excellent, and my personal favourite was the rhubarb and blackberry crumble for dessert.

The food was so good in fact that pat and I booked it for the 25th July for a meal for the group. This will be the last Thursday for the group until mid September as both pat and I will be away.

David is kindly cooking for us again this Thursday. It's his birthday on Monday the 1st July so I will bring a card for us all to sign.

It is also Tony's birthday on Thursday. It will be birthday cake with coffee this time as Margaret and Tony are eating out for lunch.

I look forward to seeing you all,

Love Fanny x

FABulous lunch out with the Group on Thursday in Villaricos. Lovely weather, venue, company and food - pics to follow shortly.

Another wonderful morning at Stepping Stones. Our new 'game' was very smelly!! We had different 'niffs' on bits of cotton wool in placky bags for the 'inmates' to identify - everything from lemon to nail polish remover and mint in between. Think everyone had a wonderful sniffy time. In addition we all met ' Big Rick' - a massive Mastin Espanol / St Bernard Cross who charmed everyone. Lovely meeting.

.............and what was the amazing activity for our Group members this week? - making pom-poms!!! Supposed to be good for the fingers. I had never made a pom-pom in my life, did I find it easy - NO! Was I given any sympathy - NO! ...then when my pom-pom turned out looking like Dennis The menace - Fanny gave him a hair cut!!. Everyone else, of course, managed to make many beautiful and colourful pom-poms. Me? - I never want to see another one for a long, long time!!! Hey, I also forgot to post a message about last week's meeting when we had the wonderful Sing, Sing, Sing, serenading us and we all had a fabulous sing along too, thank you guys, you were marvellous (better than pom-poms!!!!).

18th April 2019. Easter Bonnet Parade at today's meeting. A wonderfully chaotic game of musical hats topped off by a super roast chicken lunch followed by jelly and ice cream all produced by Fanny's fair hands. There are dozens of fab photos on our Facebook page and a selection below.

FABulous lunch 'outing' today, 21st March 2019, to the 'Chicken Shack' AKA Bar El Puente in Guazamara near Pulpi. Our coach left Turre at 12 noon with 33 Group members and we all enjoyed a great lunch starting with a delicious mixed salad and Ali Oli and bread followed by UNLIMITED spit roasted chicken and chips. All topped off by a variety of desserts plus coffee. We finished the meal with a rousing sing-song of all the old songs including 'She'll be coming round the mountain', 'Knees up Mother Brown' and 'I do like to be beside the seaside', just to mention a few. Wonderful day enjoyed by all.

14th March. Another morning of concentration this morning with word searches. We also enjoyed a lovely flavoursome lunch of chorizo and tomatoes prepared by Candi.

28th February 2019. Today's Group meeting saw everyone really putting their heads together to do some crosswords. Then we all enjoyed a lovely lunch of onions, vegetables, and Dauphinoise potatoes, prepared by Karen.

20th February 2019, The Group enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Miraflores, Los Gallardos. Their best Fish and Chips and lots of happy, smiling faces.

10th January saw a fun morning for the Group at Stepping Stones. Fanny guided us on a Virtual Tour of Mojacar Pueblo complete with touristy hats and maps - compliments of the Town Hall for which we thank them. The fun was followed by a fabulous Cottage Pie lunch cooked by David. Photos below.

The Stepping Stones Christmas lunch on 13th December was a fabulous affair with Miraflores providing us with a splendid meal. Everyone had a great time and ate and drank to their heart's content! Photos below.

6th December saw a joyous Group meeting when we had a Carol concert and everyone enjoyed singing loys of Christmas songs. Photos and videos below.

Enjoyed a wonderful morning of Music on 8th November when our Group Members were entertained by 'Anne' and her Husband singing all the old songs. There was dancing and singalongs and great fun was had by all. We have some photos and videos from the day which will appear on this page soon. The music was followed by a wonderful 'chunky' chicken and vegetable casserole, delicious. Photos below.

Today's Stepping Stones Group meeting, 11th October, was a very enjoyable Poetry morning. Everyone stood up and either read or recited their favourite poem or a poem they had written. There were funny ones and serious ones and romantic ones and it was a fabulous morning.

We all enjoyed a marvelous Stepping Stones Group outing to The Butterfly Farm near Nijah today, 20th September. The coach picked us up at Miraflores and took us to the farm where we saw an abundance of beautiful butterflies and were given a talk on the work of the farm. We returned to Miraflores for a delightful fish and chip lunch. Photos below.
